Vincenzo Maria Coronelli

- cartographer, antique maps -

A Franciscan born in 1680, whose father, like Speed's, was a tailor.

Vincenzo Coronli worked mostly in Venice, and not only rose to a position of great responsibility in his Order, but produced a quantity of magnificent maps and globes.

His magnum opus was the Atlante Veneto, published between 1691 and 1696.

Coronli Maps are heavily, even coarsely, engraved, but they have a sense of style as well as many flamboyant and often very large, decorative features. The maps are not common.
