Alexis Hubert Jaillot- cartographer, antique maps -Jaillot was born about 1632 and became a map-maker and publisher of great skill and importance. He joined Guillaume and Adrien Sanson upon the death of their father (Nicholas Sanson) and re-engraved, enlarged and re-published the Sanson maps. Jaillot produced this superb work in France, though Jaillot also formed a business connection with Pierre Mortier, who copied the plates, and printed a wholly Dutch issue in Amsterdam. This has caused some confusion as often atlases contain maps from both the French and the dutch publications. Jaillot died in Paris in 1712. |
