John Ellis- cartographer, antique maps -John Ellis was an engraver active during the period 1750-1796. Ellis produced a set of county maps in 1766 which were obvious copies from the quarto maps of Thomas Kitchin, but instead of the rococo cartouche used by Kitchin, he introduced a miniature scene. The title is usually placed upon a rock or monument, with adjacent foliage. |
