John Senex

- cartographer, antique maps -

Senex probably began his business life as a bookseller, and flourished from about 1700. His premises were in Cornhill, London, and later at the Sign of the Globe, Salisbury Court, Fleet Street.

In 1719 he issued a small road book of strip maps after Ogilby, but without decoration. In 1728 he produced a set of simple but practical sea charts in conjunction with Henry Wilson and John Harris.

Other publications included a fine set of maps of parts of the world, of folio size, issued in 1721, which includes plans of London and Rome. He produced an interesting series relating to North America and a very large folio atlas. He died in 1740.
