J Roper

Roper is most noted as the engraver of a set of maps of English and Welsh counties after the original draughts by C. Cole, variously dated from 1805-10.

These Roper maps were published as The British Atlas in 1810 and the work is of a very high standard, the issues of this period are attractive in appearance, often having early colouring on the map-face and border.

With the county maps, a number of finely executed town plans were included. A later lithographed version printed 1858 is very poor in quality, and has the imprint erased.
