Matthew Simmons

- cartographer, antique maps -

Simmons published a set of triangular distance tables of English Towns in 1635.

The work was largely copied from Norden's originals. With a thumbnail county map at the corner of each.

The plates were engraved by Jacob F. Van Langeren, and the work was almost certainly executed in the Low Countries. The set of maps was published in book form as A Direction for the English Traveller.

From 1643 the maps were republished by Thomas Jenner, and later around 1677, by John Garret.
