Robert Sayer

- cartographer, antique maps -

Sayer was a map and book publisher in Fleet Street, London, where he also sold prints, from the middle to the end of the eighteenth century.

He re-published many maps and atlases, by Jefferys, Berlin, Kitchin, and Ellis.

The latter part of his business career was in partner-ship with John Bennett. This continued until 1784, when Sayer again carried on alone until about 1794, and then Laurie & Whittle took over the business and continued to publish some very fine detailed maps.

Many of his publications were in connection with the demand for maps of America at this period.
