William Faden

- cartographer, antique maps -

William Faden acquired the Jeffery's business when he died and proceeded to produce, until well into the nineteenth century, maps of very great merit.

His output of maps, atlases and globes was prolific, but he is largely noted for his fine work in connection with the mapping of North America.

At that time, the British cartographers were the leading map-makers of America, and this is almost wholly due to the efforts, first of Jefferys, and then of Faden.

Faden's American Atlas, mostly relating to the American Revolution, is superbly engraved and contains a wealth of detail. The atlases vary greatly in their content and consequently their value because each one was made up to the individual requirements of the customer.
